Title: Interpreters

....the US operates a specific visa program for Afghan nationals who serve as interpreters who want to relocate to the US -- and there is a similar program for interpreters in Iraq. The program was created through legislation in 2009 (the Afghan Allies Protection Act), but thousands of interpreters are still waiting for their visas. The process is incredibly complicated for applicants and bureaucrat hold ups leave interpreters waiting in dangerous situations for months or even years. Now, both programs are set to expire in the coming months unless Congress takes action to renew them.

Do we want a huge influx of Afghans into the US?

I have nothing against bringing the interpreters and their immediate families in. If they promised this, they should comply immediately. But extended families, well, no.

These guys are in severe trouble because they helped Americans, yes we should make room for them.

a few should be let in, but not very many, and not extended families
our borders should be closed
we already have enough people here

I think that there is a real debt to pay, and a reputation we don't want if we fail to pay it.

Should it always be difficult for us to recruit help?

If we stiff them, perhaps it should.

it seems a very small price letting these folks and whatever families in as plane points out the losing trust will cost us greatly later on. in the streets the drug gangs can be relied to protect their own but it looks sbad that the U.S. is less reliable than drug gangs. didn't the Iraqi rebels died because they relied on U.S. support. we can`t afford to lose our rep of support ever

Congress has made mostly bad decisions with regard to Iraq and Afghanistan. Now they just want it to go away. They can easily decide in a day or so whether these guys should be given visas or not.  Stupid CIA plots are what caused the Soviets to invade Afghanistan in the first place. Stupid CIA plots are what put the nasty little Shah in charge of Iran. CIA stupidity has cause far more wars than it has prevented.
