Title: Good news about income inequality.

The US is no longer home to more billionaires than any other country.

Hurray!

Is this better news for the US or for China?

This is neither good nor bad news. It is simply a statistic. The total amount owned by billionaires in each country would be a more significant figure. And China might not be telling the truth, either.

According to the report, the total combined wealth of China's billionaires was $2.1 trillion.

This is good news for China.

As a powerful locomotive would be good news to a train.

Meanwhile half of our prospective presidents promise to pay plenteous lagniappe and reduce the difference between the bottom and the top by lopping off the top.

How did we inherit the sprit of Mao?

Taxing income above $1,000,000 a year at the 30 percent rate is hardly 'lopping off the top''.

China has over three times as many people as the US, so all things being equal, it could have any number less than three times the number of billionaires and the US would still be ahead.

In per capata terms this is true .

But in absolute ability to accomplish industrial feats and other large projects, big is big.

Being a billionaire is an individual thing, not a collective thing. So counting billionaires is silly: like counting all the toes in the room. and dividing by ten.

The US has less social mobility than any industrialized country except Portugal. In China social mobility depends on whether one lives in the major cities or back in the hinterlands.

Oh , is this insignificant?

What income class pays for 50% of the expense of our government?

How often does a billionaire get wealthy by himself?

A billionaire is typically the head of a community and the benefactor of our government whether he wishes or not.

There was a time in the past when the King collected tax mainly from the landowning class and the landowning collected rents. Could we be setting up something like this again?

Most of the Central Americans currently trying to get into this country are not here for social mobility. They are fleeing for their lives. Reagan funded wars and gangs and violence in Honduras and Salvador during his entire presidency. Maratrucha Salvatrucha MS-13 was the direct result of funding counterrevolutionaries in Salvador. Guatelmala was a peaceful place until the fucking Dulles Brothers overthrew the government there in 1957 and it was  in a state of upheaval, with the Army killing the Indians and running them off their land until about 2010.  Drug gangs and drugs did not exist in Central America until the CIA brought them there.

The most dangerous drug habit in Guatemala City was huffling airplane glue.

Don't fail to credit the USSR for opening that front in the cold war.

The Russians had nothing at all to do with the elected Arbenz government in Guatemala.

The Dulles Brothers DID own rather a lot of stock in United Fruit.
Most of the Cold War after Stalin died was caused by the Americans.

The US fucked up most of Central America for no good reason.

the flood of tens of millions of poor uneducated illegal immigrants into this
country is a factor in "income disparity" and the so called "social mobility" gap.

Social Mobility means the most when applied to those who are citizens.

Europe has a high percentage of immigrants as well, and their social mobility is ahead of ours.

So in the US immigrants assimilate better, but the locals have much lower social mobility.
That is not what I would call a superior position.

I think immigrants count as people in the society even if they never become citizens.

So the social mobility of the US has to be considered with the entire population we are serving, including immigrants and migrants and dependents.

    Borders not withstanding.

     Is Europe like this?

In most of the EU, people move freely about, so there will be Portuguese in Norway and Germans in France. There are no border crossings between most EU countries. So there are two types of immigrants: EU citizens that are living in a country other than their own, and immigrants from outside the EU. I imagine that a Dutchman would blend in quite well in Belgium, or a Belgian in France, since they would speak the same languages (Dutch and French). A Syrian would have greater difficulty, especially if he did not speak the local language. Lots of Turks speak German, very few speak Finnish or Hungarian.

There is economic mobility, which is related to income, and cultural mobility which is related to  culture.

Economic mobility is higher in Europe for immigrants (the mix of EU citizens and non EU citizens) and higher in the US for cultural adaptation.
Iranians I know always take their shoes off indoors, and have at least one room where there is no furniture: people sit on cushions or on the floor.
In Hawaii the custom is to be barefoot in the house, Hawaiians have tile floors and go barefoot. Iranians wear socks or  indoor shoes (slippers).
