WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Indiana, will form a presidential exploratory committee early next week, a Democratic source tells CNN.
The Democrat plans to visit the key campaign state of Iowa next Monday.
Bayh will become the third national politician to file papers for a presidential exploratory committee. Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, and former New York GOP Mayor Rudy Giuliani have already taken the initial step in running for president.
Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack, a Democrat, decided to bypass this step -- announcing his candidacy for president Thursday.
