I don't think that time is on our side in every case.

Sometimes it is really better to pressure an opponent or even attack him rather than allow him to stall and reload.

Ah, 'pre-emptive war'.

Isn't that what we are doing in Iraq to start with? Doesn't seem to be working there very well.

I suppose keeping them talking while we prepare to attack them would be considered ungentlemanly and uncivilized. Though war is hardly ever that anyway.

Ah, well. Pip pip. Cheerio. Carry on, old chap.

Imagine for me what the better alternative was?

During the Clinton Administration Saddam tossed out the UN and prepared to outwait the Sanctions (and we didn't know it at the time but he was buying a lot of UN office).

Just talking was not even happening.

But when he saw the freight train on the tracks he started scrambleing to get the UN inspectors back and show them something , not till the freight train was pretty near and pretty fast tho .

Saddam thought that he could just outwait us, was he wrong?

only that we might have made more of an effort to keep talks going

That presupposes we didn't. And the record shows that isn't true.

So the effort is ongoing still?

Or was I correct that 'we might have made more of an effort to keep talks going'?

Dunno. Did the article say authoritatively that they wouldn't resume?

Don't see how. As has been stated numerous times the ones who bolted was them.
Perhaps they should have made more of an effort.
Whatcha think?

It is stunning how in one breath Bush is condemned for supposedly being prefoundly incompotent, a moron.  Yet, he's also condemend for not being God-like enough, as he wasn't able to foresee and deal with everything that could go wrong with Iraq, and not be able to end a war on his say so & his time frame

Quite a comdemnational disconnect, if you ask me.  Or as we also say, DIHD.....DIHD't

The gist of my question, then, in case you missed it, is what have we done since then to try and get the talks restarted? Have we made any efforts in that direction? Or did we just throw our hands up and quit?

Perhaps, but 'they' are not who I am asking about.

In my opinion you are asking the wrong questions.

They made outlandish demands. We persevered.

We looked at other options.

They bolted.

Are we to force them at gunpoint back to the table?

Seems like we aren't to blame on this one.
