I didn't see either of them in Cinerama. There were never very many theatres that had the special screens.

IMAX seems to be the successor to Cinerama. And it's much more popular, Minneapolis area has 3 or 4 IMAX screens, 2 of them the OMNIMAX style (full hemispherical). They're also deploying a 3D IMAX.

I think 3d movies in the 50`s are a match to today's flick

The rubberoid monsters of the 1950's were pretty phony looking compared with the characters in Avatar. Or the scenery in Avatar. Everything on the screen is synthesized.
