House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi will kick off the conference this afternoon. The event features more than 350 presenters participating in dozens of scheduled panels and sessions, including "Mobile Democracy: Your Phone is Political" and "Responding to the Media's Impact on Immigrant Rights." There are also film screenings, workshops, and how-to-training.
The conference is hosted by Free Press, a nine-year-old nonprofit and nonpartisan group that works to promote independent and diverse media ownership and media reform.
