Democrat opposes stem-cell research

Posted by Josh Drobnyk at 6:44 am CST

The newly elected Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, a Democrat, is not nearly outspoken about embryonic stem cell research as was his predecessor, Republican Rick Santorum.

Yet, with new legislation offering federal financing for stem cell research nearing a vote, an aide says that Casey is prepared to vote against it -- which helps imperil the Senate's chance of overriding another veto by President Bush, who blocked the last attept to fund embryonic research. Read my story about the new senator and the reemerging stem-cell debate debate in today's Morning Call.
