Is the American that's telling the world to shut up supposed to be Obama?

Note: the American appears to be colored.

I'm just wondering, that's all...

That is the way the cartoonist sees Americans. Canadians are also darker. Perhaps the sun is to blame.

They are each speaking their native languages: Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Suomi (Finn) and Icelandic.
Scandinavians all are far more likely to speak foreign languages than Americans.

This is a comment on Scandinavian educational superiority, not race.

I thought You would get a kick out of this XO.

Not English

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You'd be surprised how often I'm asked that question. It's usually by people from English speaking countries who can't speak any other language themselves.

And I google translated all of it from English, even the Danish, just for the hell of it.

First, let’s make this clear: I did not make any of these up. They are all old national personifications of countries that I just re-drew.

I wanted to see what they looked like next to each other.

From left to right:
Lady of the Mountains (Iceland)
Ola Nordmann (Norway)
Holger the Dane (Denmark)
Mother Svea (Sweden)
Finnish Maiden (Finland)
Adelita (Mexico)
Uncle Sam (USA)
Mother Canada (Canada)
Jock Tamson (Scotland)
Kathleen Ni Houlihan (Ireland)
John Bull (England)
Dame Wales (Wales)

I tried to give them individual personalities as I see them from their pictures.

Why no SaTW?

People ask why I don't draw SaTW so much anymore, and the explanation is really quite simple: Too much drama.

Because the characters are countries and they act out real life events, people put way too much thought into them, and already have their own ideas about how they should look and act. I get complaints about something as completely irrelevant as hairstyles every single time I post a SaTW comic. Every single time. And I'm so sick of the comment "Women are much prettier than that in [inset every single country in the world ever]!!!" And those are just the mildest ones.
On top of that people always have to correct me on everything, even when I say I know it's not completely right, but it was funnier this way. It's a joke comic, so funny comes before correct.

I very easily gets stressed and I got tired of being in a bad mood every time I logged on DA. Don't get me wrong, I still like those little buggers, but I'm mainly keeping them to myself these days to give my nerves some rest. I have some SaTW comics that I'll post when I feel like it.

Niels and gang are different. They are all mine, and while some people may feel a need to tell me how a gun works or what have you, it's nowhere near as bad as with SaTW. I can just relax and make up silly stories and jokes with them, post them and get new ideas from peoples' comments. It's a wonderful symbiotic relationship I have going on with you, even tough it may not seem like it because I rarely respond to comments.

It's the same with SaTW. It wouldn't have come that far if it wasn't for people telling me odd info about various countries, but the problem is that people got too involved and saw the characters as some kind of ambassadors for the real countries when in fact they're noting more than what I like to call "fat stick figures with huge mouths".

So SaTW is still around, but I'll only post comics when I feel like it.

Edit: Disabling comments doesn't work, because then people just send me notes or comments on my front page.

America is a frequent subject, this might just be how we look to a European.

I think she is going more for a laugh than for accuracy.
