There is a difference between changing one's accent to suit an audience and to do so when it would appear silly to do so. For Juniorbush to take on a Black accent at an NAACP convention would be like him appearing in blackface, as it would look like he was mocking the audience, not seeking to appear to be another Black guy. On the other hand, for Gov. Richardson to address an audience of Hispanics in Pojoaque, NM would be seen as an asset.

Speaking Spanish to a Spanish speaking audience would be seen as an asset anywhere in the country, regardless of the race of the candidate.

Gov richardson is 1/2 hispanic and Bush spoke spanish to hispanics too. But bush nor richardson didn't pretend to be a low rider. talking spanish, a language, and jive talk are not the same and for Obama to jive talk with the brothers is how he used race in the election and this is what we are talking about. he didn't speak spanish because he can't.

each race has difference types of reactions.

you never wave over a philipino.
you never point with a middle finger ,purse you lips to an american
don`t do the ok sign to a portugese
don`t leave babies outside while eating inside a restaurant is another thing you don`t do in america.

Hispanics made fun of Juniorbush's Spanish, it was awful, but at least he tried. It may have done him more good than harm.

I said nothing whatever about "jive talk".

Obama did not speak any differently when he addressed the student body at my university, where there may have been around 3% non-Black people in attendance. Perhaps he can sound like Jesse Jackson, perhaps not, but if he can, I saw no evidence of it. He was VERY well received.
