It is a cute picture, but hardly a political one, as the Tiananmin Square photo was.

Putin seems to have far more popularity with the Russian people than one would expect. He seems to understand the Russian people very well.

Tens of thousands of protesters had marched against Putin that afternoon, the day before his inauguration. They were met by row after row of police, thousands of them, who were there to make sure they stayed within the bounds of their rally permit.

Putin has a chink in his armor.

Putin is bloody awful from an American perspective, but Russians, especially ethnic Russians, see him differently. Russians do not see democracy as Americans do.
