What you do on your own time
« on: May 10, 2012, 10:00:08 AM »
1st it was facebook passwords now it's w-2.

If you think about it buinesses have been intruding into employees life for awhile.
Ex. Giving up smoking , be of a certain religion or orientation.

Every once in awhile an employee would get fired for pre-employment activity.

All I stated would most likely have no real effect with most of our personal lives. But would such you work for such company that.
1. Looks at your facebook history
2. Full access to your financial history
3. Tell you what to eat or smoke
4.suggest when to take vacation
5. Tell you who not to date

The last two actually happened

Kimba I agree there should be some limits
but it's sometimes a "fine line"

isn't employment a mutual decision?

the employee is free to leave & work else where any time they choose.
and sometimes they do for a dime more an hour

if an employee doesnt like a company's smoking policy, cant they go else where?
i am not having employees smoke in my offices even if they are on break

vacation is a perk...
what is wrong with an employer suggesting an employee take less busy days off?
should an accounting firm not care if all the accountants take off April 1st-15th?
wouldn't that be insane?

should Macy's be helpless to suggest other days for vacation
to their employees besides taking most of early December off?

should the airlines and air traffic controller mgt not be allowed to suggest
their ticket agents and air traffic controllers not all schedule vacations on
the busiest travel weeks of the year?

should the Charlotte Police Dept be helpless if all their Police officers
decide they want to take off during the Democratic National Convention?
is that logical? or good for a company's over-all health?

should CNN not be allowed to reprimand Wolf Blitzer
if he is an active KKK member on his days off?

would it be ok if the CEO of Mothers Against Drunk Driving
posted on Facebook all the time how he got wasted drunk
every weekend at his house? Would that be good for business?

would it be ok if the President of your Bank or the CEO
of your investment company posted on Facebook every
weekend how big of a gambler he is?
would that be good for business?

would it be a good thing for health clubs/workout facilities
to have obese unhealthy looking people at their reception desks?
should they not be allowed to make that decision?

should modeling agencies be forced to choose
obese people for their cover of Vogue?

should shampoo companies be forced to use
male models that decide to shave their heads
over the weekend?

should day-care centers be helpless if their
child-care workers are posting on Facebook
how they are total party animals every
night and weekend?

should anti-smoking organizations be forced
to hire people that are posting comments and pictures
on Facebook showing how much they love to smoke?

so an employee can study everything available about a
company they are taking a job with, but a company is
not allowed to do the same about a prospective employee?

sure there are exceptions to every rule...
but should a business not be allowed to protect itself from damage
when an employee is looking out for himself (small picture),
but the company is looking out for the whole company (big picture)?

Very good examples.

But Remember you lose a paycheck if you quit. Thats a mighty big advantage . The expression "you should be happy to have a job " is a employer license to do anything they want many do.

I left one for a quarter more.

But those days are gone. I gonna have to wait a few years to ramp my skills for higher pay.

Being as fascist companies think that they have a right to fire people or refuse to hire people based on their Facebook page, it would seem stupid for anyone top even HAVE a Facebook page. It is not like anyone needs one. And of course, you could always sign up with an assumed name. There is no law against lying to Facebook.

I used Facebook to keep in touch with some fellow HS alumni.

I keep getting messages about how there is new stuff on my Facebook page. Invariably it is just information about someone sayjng to someone else (not me) about that stupid Farmville game.

I no longer bother to check on this crap.
