Thousands of homes on Staten Island were searched for the dead and survivors, including this house, swept into a marsh in Oakwood. Neighbors helped recover items from the house.

The soggy marshes and still-damp ruins of homes on Staten Island yielded a grim postscript to the toll from Hurricane Sandy on Thursday, as search teams discovered more bodies where the storm’s giant wall of water had smashed its way through.

I've been trying to reach, both home and cell, a friend of mine who lives on Staten Island for two days to no avail.
