I would not have guessed this , but a warning about a dangerous man was not heeded because his name is hard to spell.

Russian, of course, is not spelled with the Roman alphabet. A name in Russian often will have more or fewer letters than the same name in the Roman alphabet.
The backwards R represents the sound "ya". It is the last letter of the Cyrillic alphabet. nyet is spelled HET in the Cyrillic alphabet.There are a couple of letters, called surds, that simply are used to change the pronunciation of certain consonants.
