China was forced to give up enclaves in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Harbin in the 1800's and today's leaders consider that to be a national humiliation that they will not allow to be repeated.

They consider Tibet to be a backward, primitive society with lots of resources to mine and lots of room to settle Han Chinese in.

They believe that they are bringing modernity, health services, roads and bridges to the Tibetans, which they are.
Tibetans claim they are losing their traditional way of life, which is also true.

The Chinese have treated the Tibetans better on average than the Americans treated the Indians, like the Sioux and the Navajo.

Tibet is a funny thing. It is true the quality of life is better now than before china's occupation. But the people are not exactly living in happy conditions also.

Tibetans, it seems, would prefer to be independent and not to have the Chinese Army hanging around.
They do not read or speak Mandarin Chinese, and cannot get the better jobs.

Odds are, if you attended school in China, you would have learned it.

Some languages are harder to learn than others.
It is easier for English speakers to learn Spanish than vice versa.
English has 42-45 sounds, Spanish has 21-23,
English spelling is illogical, Spanish is nearly phonetic.

It's pretty much another language not really a dialect since only a small percent sounds similiar. I'm pretty sure most place has to some degree maintained thier original language and simply just learned mandarin on top of it. But over here it just seems my language is becoming extinct
