It is still only partially in effect, but the nation is finding out more all the time about how it works and what problems it has, and who benefits.
If we understood it as well then as we do now would Congress have passed the Affordable healthcare act?
If it were offered over again would it pass now?
I don't think so, the thing is a mess.
It adds power to an already super powered IRS.
It discourages choosing "Doctor" as a career.
It gives the government a new and very strong means and reason to interfere in private affairs and business affairs .
Execution and financing of the law has been clumsy with hard to use enrolment, uncertain coverage, increases in cost, increases in deductibles, new taxes , thousands of dropped policies and one of history's worst websites.
An increased cost of prosthetics surtax congress ought to be especially ashamed of.
For most people cost has increased, many who thought they had new coverage or subsidy to decrease cost have learned that it depends on a clause and a state line and most subsidies are threatened. For a goodly portion of the poor there never was a potential benefit.
I am not convinced that death panels are ruled out either. Truly they haven't been seen yet , but there is not really an increase in the number of medical personnel and devices, how will a grand increase in customers not cause rationing?
It is easy for proponents to point to a half dozen features that most of us like , such as coverage for children on parents policies for additional years or coverage for preexisting conditions.....
But....
How hard would it be to gather the part of Obama care that served as bait, and create a short bill that featured these provisions that everyone likes?
A simple bill that can be read and understood by an ordinary citizen in a single afternoon?
Yes, pass a bill that makes it easier to cover a preexisting condition, it could all be on one page, pass another bill that rewards insurance companies willing to cover children into early adulthood , pass a bill that subsidizes health care provision to the needy, each of these features could be written on a single page.
Several bills or a single bill with a small number of pages could cover everything that people like about the Affordable health care act , and might avoid growing the governments role in our lives to include complete control of twenty percent of the economy that used to be free.
Yes pass the small simple bill we want , repeal Obamacare.

Excise Tax on Medical Devices
Many medical devices, such as wheelchairs and prosthetics (an official list is forthcoming from FDA), will be subject to a new excise tax of 2.3%. This will not be applied to items that are typically sold in a retail setting, such as eyeglasses, contact lenses, and hearing aids.
