No one knows how much anyone is spending, because it is now possible to spend money without divulging the source.
We have the Supreme Court to thank for that.

Not true really.
It has always been possible to hide a lot of contribution.
The Supreme court has not changed anything major.

I would like to have better disclosure of sources , but who in power would want this?

Looks as if I was wrong .... https://www.opensecrets.org/overview/  ... Republicans are spending more, but not by a lot.

Again. we cannot be sure where the money is coming from or going to.

Again. we cannot be sure where the money is coming from or going to.

The scale of it is easy to estimate, and a lot of it can be tracked , if not all.

There has always been a backdoor for this money , and making it illegal will make a cellar door open.

The shady money is pretty interesting stuff, but there is a huge mass of money being spent the sheer enormity of the whole expense is amazing.

The same money would build a pretty big hospital in each state , if hospitals were actually held in higher priority than incumbency.
