This is a characterization of a real attitude.

But presently it seems unevenly distributed between Muslims and everyone else.

There really is no serious movement in the West to subjugate the East.

But there is a ridiculously large movement in the East to resist the colonization by the West , which was ended a half century ago.

Of course the West is subjugating the Middle East.  It is not some evil CIA plot, it is consumerism, that turns people into status seeking people with a craving for things that will bestow them with greater status. Satellite TV, advertising and hucksterism are tearing down the structure of immutable Islam.  In a consumer society, women must be consumers. They must be free to shop, gossip about their Pradas and Effendis, flatscreen TVs, and fashions. Traditional Islam sees women more as a necessary child breeding and raising appliance.  If women are liberated, they will want money, and that leads to them wanting careers, jobs, and they will no longer have time to instil in young Aisha or Hassan the absolute necessity of memorizing the Koran or praying five times a day.   If Western consumerism wins, traditional Islam goes down the tubes. Just like the Shakers and the Quakers and the Amana Colony have gone down the tubes in the USA.

We hate the idea that in Saudi Arabia, women cannot drive a car. Drive it where? To the MALL, of course. Western consumerism also pushes women as sex symbols, which  traditional Islam sees as something that will turn their society into   orgies in which no one will bother to pray five times a day as Mohammad  taught.
Madison Avenue is the greatest threat to Mohammad ever.

Western consumerism is a much more powerful and persistent threat to traditional Islam than the D-Day landings were to the Nazis. There is no way they can stop it or turn it off. Radical Islam is a violent reaction to the assault to Western consumerism.

Of course, the medieval idea of traditional Islam involves rule of the few , oligarchs and the very, very wealthy, and abject poverty of a huge number of people, and women seen as chattel.

The traditional Muslims are doomed to lose. It will take some time, especially in the poorer countries, because people have no money to buy anything.

Look what happened to blue laws in this country. When I came to Florida, most stores were closed on Sunday. You could not buy beer on Sunday. Now I think you can buy beer anytime. First they limited it to before noon on Sunday, but them people complained that they would miss the game.

Compare swimsuits in the 1920's with those worn today.

So , there is no avoiding a fight ?

They are not just doomed to loose, they have little choice but to fight and loose , or just loose.

They will have to lose. That does not mean that the US will win, however. All Medieval patriarchal cultures are doomed by the same forces. There will be a few of the more peaceful variety, like the Amish, the  tiny traditionalist Mormon cults and the Hassidic Jews, that will persist, but they will exist as footnotes.

Consumer society, of course, is unsustainable. It cannot continue to exploit the Earth's resources and grow as it has been doing, because basic resources, including fresh water, are being used up and/or contaminated, faster than they can be replaced by recycling,  Every corporation has as a goal to grow, grow grow. This is a cancerous process that cannot continue as it has been doing over the past two centuries.

There is not now, nor will there ever be a perfect civilization or state or system. That does not mean that we should not strive to improve on what we have, though.

It is like science: we can learn more and more, but we can never know it all.
