I did not see it....Who did?
« on: August 07, 2015, 01:18:16 AM »
...as in the Debate tonight, because I was helping a friend from recent knee surgery.  I hear though that:
- Trump was.....Trump
- Christie apparently did very well
- Rubio & Walker came off good as well
- Carson came off as perhaps just as authentic as Trump...but in a more mannerly way.

What was funny was watching a few snippets from each of the 3 Cable News Networks
- Fox (the host) appeared to conclude that no one shot themselves in the foot, & that they all came off as pretty authentic, and able to connect with regular folks.  They did add that Fiorina did so well in the prior debate, there's the chance she might be included in the next big one.  Here's hoping that happens

- MSNBHeeHaa basically opined they were all retreads of a tired old trickle down mentality, that has never worked (except of course when it did).  They're all men, who hate women, and that it was pretty much just a big joke.  (which ironically isn't too far off, since with soooo many people on the stage, its really hard to envision how this was more a grand infomercial rather than a debate)

-  CNN, at least the snippet I saw, seemed to almost push the idea of Trump as a 3rd party Candidate.  They were enthralled with the prospect (almost giddy).  And why wouldn't they.  Without demonizing anyone like MSNBHeeHaa does, such a vision pretty much guarantees that the Democratic nominee would get elected.

At least that's what I gleamed from the little bit of the post-debate reporting I caught.  What say you?

Ben Carson is still my favorite.

But there was only a little time for each one , and they are all the valedictorian type.

True.  The apparent concensus, is that if 1 person had to be picked as "the winner", that would have been Rubio.  Carson, Kasich, & Christie rose some notches, while Bush & Trump stumbled some

The polls taken after the debate will show who really won, I suppose.

I do not have cable, so I imagine I will watch it online. I already have the popcorn, but I need a bit of time free.

Rubio's major quip was saying that he grew up "from paycheck to paycheck", so that qualifies him more than, say, Hillary.

The problem with this is that it assumes that the major function of the President of the United States is to provide hands-on classes in Home Economics to the population.

This is not a normal part of the duties of the Chief Executive.  FDR and Eleanor did more of this sort of thing than most.

Rubio still seems to be living paycheck to paycheck, by the way. Unless he gets his hands on the Florida Republican Party's Amex Card, anyway.

The Trumpster wants them to know that they had better make HIM the nominee, or he'll run as a Third Partier and essentially pee in their punchbowl, and Hello, President Hillary. Or Bernie. Or whoever.

Yeah, I don't like that.

But it has a precedent, T.  Roosevelt  did that to Taft.

That Roosevelt called his group the "Bull Moose"  party fit him well .

What would fit Trump?

Is this another thing that Trump could name for himself?

I would imagine that Trump will resurrect the name Reform Party, which was used by Ross Perot and  Jesse Ventura.  Calling it the Trump Party would not, in my opinion, be a wise choice.  The other recurring name is American Independent Party, but that was last associate with George Wallace. It is a better name, but with more negative connotations.

There are a plethora of possible new names they might devise, but I see Reform Party as the most likely.

Trump is very, very unlikely to get the nomination: the Oligarchy, especially the bankers, mistrust Trump and see him as a loose cannon rollong about the deck of the ship of state.

It was the most watched Presidential party debate in history...that was only because of Trump.
24 million watched....last time the highest was a mere 3 million.
That is awesome that many people tuned in and heard Republican ideas for 2 hours!
Do you know much that kind of free advertising would cost?!
Slam dunk any way you cut it.

The allure of this debate was rather like the allure of a NASCAR race or a WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment)  match. Many people tuned in because they wanted to see a bloody floor fight. They wanted to see Trump humiliated or they wanted to see Trump humiliate the politicians, just as NASCAR fans crave seeing crashes and WWE fans like to see them throw chairs at one another.

It was a disappointment for many, I am sure. Not one of them has any sort of workable plan for Immigration, peace in the Middle East, Climate Change, the National Debt, a  workable better healthcare plan or anything. All they said is that President Obama, who rescued the American auto industry, restored the economy faster than experts predicted, and ended the troops dying in Iraq and Afghanistan by the dozens, was a failure at what they would call a crowning success had McCain ot Romney accomplished the same things.

The GOP is NOT the party of  ideas, it is the Party of No and the Party of Dunces.

If Fox really wanted toi be an AUTHENTIC News course, they would have presented this on Fox Network over the air broadcasts, rather than on Fox News, which is only available on cable.

The Miami Fox channel had some dumb piece of reality TV on it.
I do give Fox credit for the Simpsons, Bob's Burgers and Family Guy.

Other networks have not been very good at cartoon satire shows that both adults and children can enjoy.
The Flintstones and the Jetsons were ripoffs of The Honeymooners.
The best cartoons of this sort before the Simpsons were the Jay Ward creations: Bullwinkle and Rocky, George of rthe Jungle, Sherman and Peabody.
