A Dobsonian telescope is the biggest telescope that is considered portable .

If you build one it will be the finest instrument you can make by hand , it is very labor intensive.

If you build one of the bigger ones , you will just barely have enough power to find something you could name.

John Dobson is charming , but is he charming enough to make you want to work hard for a month to craft a telescope?

I could possibly make one four or five times as large as the biggest I could afford to buy.
