Evan McMullin, Learn to spell it.
« on: August 09, 2016, 11:05:14 PM »

My Fellow Americans,

Our American Nation is the greatest experiment in freedom the world has ever known. It’s given generations of citizens the blessings of liberty ever since the Founding Fathers risked their lives in what seemed like an improbable bid for independence. While the republic they created was one of imperfect freedoms, for 240 years the arc of progress and liberty has moved ever-upward. Even in times of economic crisis and war, our nation has been a singular source of hope for people throughout the world yearning for liberty, dignity and opportunity.

I proudly and quietly served our country for most of my adult life, first as an undercover operations officer with the Central Intelligence Agency and more recently as a senior national security and policy advisor in the House of Representatives. My service has given me unique, firsthand knowledge of the threats our nation faces, the burdens borne by hardworking Americans, and the numerous areas of our government that desperately need reform.

Like millions of Americans, I had hoped this year would bring us better nominees who, despite party differences, could offer compelling visions of a better future. Instead, we have been left with two candidates who are fundamentally unfit for the profound responsibilities they seek.

Hillary Clinton is a corrupt career politician who has recklessly handled classified information in an attempt to avoid accountability and put American lives at risk including those of my former colleagues. She fails the basic tests of judgment and ethics any candidate for President must meet. Moreover, she only offers stale economic ideas like the same old top-down government control that has brought us eight years of historically low growth.

Donald Trump appeals to the worst fears of Americans at a time when we need unity, not division. Republicans are deeply divided by a man who is perilously close to gaining the most powerful position in the world, and many rightly see him as a real threat to our Republic. Given his obvious personal instability, putting him in command of our military and nuclear arsenal would be deeply irresponsible. His infatuation with strongmen and demagogues like Vladimir Putin is anathema to American values. We cannot and must not elect him.

Millions of Americans are not being represented by either of these candidates; those of us who care about the strength of the military and intelligence services find little to embrace in either Trump or Clinton.

Americans who believe in limited, Constitutional government that is smaller, smarter, and more accountable view both
Clinton and Trump as symbols of corruption and excess that provide no hope of basic competence in the federal government.

Those who embrace the dignity and value of every human life from conception until death; who understand the crushing danger of our unsustainable national debt; who believe deference to our Constitution outweighs partisan political priorities are all looking for something better than the two major party candidates are offering. These foundational and time-tested principles transcend party and politics but sadly have no champion in this election. We must not abandon the fight for these values, for doing so will deprive future generations of Americans the bright future we want to give them.

With the stakes so high for our nation and at this late stage in the process, I can no longer stand on the sidelines. Our country needs leaders who are in it for the right reasons and who actually understand what makes this country the greatest on earth. Leaders who will unite us and guide us to a prosperous, secure future, beyond the dysfunction of a broken political system.

Just as the American Revolution required men and women devoted to liberty and freedom to stand up and be counted, this moment calls a new generation to the same sacred task. With that in mind, I have decided to pursue the cause of American renewal and the Presidency of the United States of America.

With Hope For Our Future,

Evan McMullin

Evan McMullin is an independent candidate for President.

Not a chance. Still, a vote for him is probably a vote that would otherwise go to The Donald, so yeah, vote for him.
CIA spooks I am wary of, just as I am wary of ex KGB guys like Putin.

Worlds better than not voting at all.

But you make a cogent point.

A vote that refuses the "lesser evil" and is cast strictly on principal.

Is it worth the risk against a Hillary regime?

If I vote most effectively against Hillary by voting for Trump , perhaps I will.

Disgusted with the result either way.

Trump is many times worse than Hillary. Hillary is predictable. This country did pretty well with Bill Clinton as President.

Trump says stupid crap every day, he is ignorant and makes no effort to actually learn any facts. He is a demagogue of the worst sort.  As such, he is dangerous.

I see Hillary in a clear light.

She is not better.

You have not even found a switch. You see nothing. You seem to be infected with ignorance.

If you think Hillary is a suitable President , you must not be looking at Hillary.

She is already making Nixon look good.

Trump has his problems , no no problem of Trumps made Hillary remove all of the Democracy from the Democratic party.

Do you choose to forget or excuse her for blocking out the democracy in the Democratic selection of candidate?

Trump did not make her do that.

And as President she will continue to fail to respect you.

Trump respects no one but himself.

The procedure to select delegates to the DNC was in place before Hillary declared her candidacy. I voted for Bernie, but Bernie only got 27% in my precinct. Being as Bernie was not a registered Democrat, I do not think that they had to allow him to run in the Democratic primaries. I am pretty sure the Republicans would have excluded him. Hillary for millions more votes than Bernie. Had there been no superdelegates, she would have won anyway.

Did you notice that the Republicans prevented polling the delegations in the nominating process? That was not normal at all. And after Trump had the votes, they did not propose to make it unanimous as they have always done in the past.

The RNC was horribly run, right down to playing the song "You can't Always Get What You Want" after declaring The Donald the candidate.

Again, Hillary as president would be like a rerun of Bill as president, without Monica. Prosperity, no new wars, less deficit spending.

Trump is a gasbag capable of launching a war on Canada.

I thought that song was horribly apt.

The force of humor is strong in this one.

The Republican problem this year was that no one was excluded. more than half the voters split between candidates other than Trump but Trumps steady 30% prevailed.    Hillary was campaigning and plotting treachery long before her announcement of candidacy . The chair having to resign in disgrace is an admission that there was no  democracy  in  the  Democratic  party ,    Hillary Roddam-Clinton   was more important than democracy.

This is an interesting combination of poor memory and wishful thinking.
Lets turn Bill loose ing the Whitehouse with almost nothing to do, then lets call scandal unlikely,... less likely?

How less likely? Will the President use executive power to lock the hound up?

You also forget that Bill Clinton would jump into a war at the drop of a hat.

There isn't much reason to expect prosperity either. Is there a brand new industry coming to maturity? Is there a huge baby boom generation reaching peak earnings?

The 2016 RNC Convention will go down in history as the dumbest political event ever.
Playing that song was probably motivated by Ted Cruz's refusal to endorse The Orange One. It was done out of spite, not humor.
Republicans and not into humor. Spite is all they have.

Hey , sometimes you get what you need!

I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she would meet her connection
At her feet was her footloose man

No, you can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometime you find
You get what you need

I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she was gonna meet her connection
At her feet was her footloose man

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you might find
You get what you need

But I went down to the demonstration
To get your fair share of abuse
Singing, "We're gonna vent our frustration
If we don't we're gonna blow a fifty-amp fuse"

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes well you just might find
You get what you need

I went down to the Chelsea drugstore
To get your prescription filled
I was standing in line with Mr. Jimmy
And man, did he look pretty ill
We decided that we would have a soda
My favorite flavor, cherry red
I sung my song to Mr. Jimmy
Yeah, and he said one word to me, and that was "dead"
I said to him

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You get what you need

You get what you need, yeah, oh baby

I saw her today at the reception
In her glass was a bleeding man
She was practiced at the art of deception
Well I could tell by her blood-stained hands

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find
You get what you need

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find
You get what you need 0h yeah

NO one needs Trump.

I know how to spell "Evan McMullin", but I do not deem it useful to consider his candidacy. He could only be a spoiler, as he isn't on enough ballots to win. Gary Johnson and Jill Stein will beat him easily.
