Yes, that is an Idea that is floating past.
There is indeed a large part of the entertainment industry that is eagerly searching for something meaningful to do to protest the Donald Trump Phenomenon.
This is a grand idea, it would show the public that the entertainers and such are sincere and willing to undergo sacrifice to lodge a protest, meanwhile harming no one in particular.
If the Oscars get cancelled would someone be sure to let me know that it has happened?
I never watch the thing , so I could possibly miss missing it.
