The internet is a grand commnication scheme , but what is the content of the communication?

Though the medium is more than ever speedy and its size is vast , isn't it mostly still the same stuff that was scrawled on the wall soon after the invention of writing?

Porn and gossip , must be 90% or so of Internet use , if the Internet is giving truth and understanding new legs , it seems that it is also giving lies and prejustice new wings.

Are we as humn beings going to be better off because we have the internet  ?

It also does concern me that young people, particularly, are more into the Net and other forms of visual stimulation than the practiced art of reading. I am not entirely sure whether I am just out of touch and this is a perfectly fine phenomena or whether it is indeed a major cause for concern.

Good point, BT. However, I have noticed a tendency of young people to pursue "short and sweet" activities such as IMing. One of my stepchildren mentined the other day that they don't read anything on the Net if it is over a screenful as it is "too boring"
