No room for the dead
« on: May 06, 2007, 03:22:16 PM »
Congressional Iraq memorial runs out of room.

“Congress already has run out of space on a memorial created last year to honor all of the U.S. service members killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. In a grim sign of the times, the “Wall of the Fallen,” set up by House Republican leaders in June, is almost full. The mounting death toll from Iraq has forced U.S. House staffers to study how to reconfigure the display in the lobby of the Rayburn Building — the largest office building for members of Congress — to squeeze in more names.” No new soldiers have been added since November.

They can do what Hollywood does - - Wall of the Fallen !!, Wall of the Fallen 33 1/3, The Final Insult.  I hope the Rayburn Building doesn't really need its lobby.

Sirs, you don't like to hear the truth.  The truth doesn't care.  It's still there.  It will still be there tomorrow, looming over you.  You can cower from it all you want and make snide remarks but it. is. still. there.   And always will be.

Fact: the Iraq War, though improvident to many Americans (a good number in retrospect), nonetheless is a duly authorized and constituted military operation of the United States of America. Those who have and will die do so under that aegis. Maudlin, sentimental gambits aimed (and in this instance, awkwardly) at emotional "resolution" before reason can lead policy to a suitable exit are not only largely unhelpful but generally unwelcome as well. Oh, I almost forgot to comment on the "holier-than-thou" angle just dripping off this lark. Yes, "lark," when hard thought and resolute good sense are needed. Finally, do you actually think that you care more for our dead than the average Republican, especially, based on the understanding I have, when more of "their" folk serve in that theater than "ours"?

What is the truth? That there have been casualties in Iraq?

Duh

That congresscritters sometimes don't plan ahead?

Duh again.

What "truth" are you referring to Lanya?  That soldiers die in war?  Ummm, news flash, we already know that.  It's not a secret, as soldiers have been dying in war long before Christ
