It was a disaster in Vietnam, and it is doomed to be a disaster in Iraq.
The one place where a disaster could be avoided, Afghanistan, is being ignored because of the huge amounts of resources going to Iraq prevents them from being used in Afghanistan. We had and still have international support to change Afghanistan, but it is waning.
The dollar is being buggered to pay for this travesty by printing unbacked money. When the Brazilian reis is a more stable currency than the US dollar, we can be certain that we just can't afford to keep the war in Iraq going much longer.
