Four Austrian soldiers face criminal charges for exchanging Hitler salutes in two videos that appeared on the Internet, Defence Minister Norbert Darabos said on Thursday.

"There will be absolutely no tolerance for expressions of support for the National Socialist system. We can make no compromises here," said Darabos, a Social Democrat.

somebody should have told them....Conscription in Australia, or mandatory military service also known as National Service, has a controversial history dating back to the first years of nationhood. Australia currently has no conscription.

Australia or Austria?

Austria has mandatory military service for all males.

If they were indeed in uniform when they did this, then severe should be the response. I am no longer in uniform, so my comments are what I choose them to be. When I was in uniform, I made no political statements negative of the current adminsitration, Democrat or Republican.

It was against the rules. Period. You don't like it, get out!

I think alot of countries has that
some are use trade offs
ex. if you want to be a doctor
you can get government backing, but have to serve for the same amount of time you were in college
