Richardson Endorsing Obama

This could be a death knell for Hillary, depending on whether or not other Hispanics follow Richardson's lead.

AP: Gov. Richardson endorsing Obama By BARRY MASSEY, Associated Press Writer

SANTA FE, N.M. - New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, the nation's only Hispanic governor, is endorsing Sen. Barack Obama for president, calling him a "once-in-a-lifetime leader" who can unite the nation and restore America's international leadership.

Richardson, who dropped out of the Democratic race in January, is to appear with Obama on Friday at a campaign event in Portland, Ore., The Associated Press has learned.

Richardson backed Obama despite his ties to Clinton and her husband, the former president. He served as ambassador to the U.N. and as secretary of the Energy Department during the Clinton administration. Last month, Richardson and former President Clinton watched the Super Bowl together at the governor's residence in Santa Fe.

Richardson praised Hillary Clinton as a "distinguished leader with vast experience." But the governor said Obama "will be a historic and great president, who can bring us the change we so desperately need by bringing us together as a nation here at home and with our allies abroad."

Richardson was a roving diplomatic troubleshooter when he was a congressman from New Mexico, negotiating the release of U.S. hostages in several countries and meeting with a rogue's gallery of U.S. adversaries, including Saddam Hussein and Fidel Castro.

I don't think Richardson has a lot of coattails outside of New Mexico. He is a capable guy, but he is not the MLK of the Chicanos, nor does he claim to be. Villaraigosa is a bit closer to a major influence, but the fact is that there is no one lider maximo de los hispanos, nopr even de los chicanos.

Richardson was a Clinton man. He defended her at all the debates and even watched the Super Bowl with Slick Willey. He owes his career to the Clintons. And then he knifes them in the back. This seems like a pure pandering move to help himself get named Veep. I can't say that the Clintons don't deserve it, but this guy Richardson shows absolutely no loyalty whatsoever.

I don't think that Richardson owes the Clintons either his loyalty or his career.  Both parties benefited from his tenure in the Clinton Administration, it's not like Richardson was entirely incompetent and had to have the Clintons do his work for them.

Richardson was probably the most capable, competent, and experienced candidate this election, but he didn't have the pizzazz necessary to connect with voters.  He would make an excellent VP for either candidate, his endorsement is just that, an endorsement.  He didn't condemn Clinton, he just feels that Obama is a better candidate.

I don't consider that back stabbing.  I do consider it to be independent thinking.

He's a real "player". Richardson will lose respect for what he's done here, no doubt about it...maybe even among Hispanics.

Perhaps he sees that Obama will have a better chance, and perhaps he will be VP, or a cabinet secretary.

I don't see how anyone has an obligation to do anything other than what makes sense to them. Loyalties are not tattoos.

Richardson has always wanted recognition for SELF! He's a joke.

No one runs for president unless they have a huge ego.

Perhaps he feels he could serve the public best as a cabinet secretary or VP, or has convinced himself of this.

I think I'd like him for president more than Hillary or Obama.

His ego is beyond huge, he has a temper! Richardson has been known to fire people on the spot, out of a need to get his way. He's a rough patch not ready for gardening.
