Easy explanation
« on: April 24, 2008, 11:40:41 AM »
Quote
Clinton carried regular churchgoers as well as gun owners, seven in 10 Catholics and those for whom the economy or health care are the foremost issues.

At a fundraiser in San Francisco in April, Obama told the crowd: "You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion, or antipathy to people who aren't like them, or anti-immigrant sentiment, or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

According to an analysis of Pennsylvania exit polls by ABC News' polling director Gary Langer, Clinton won small-town and rural voters, 61 percent to 39 percent; weekly churchgoers, 58 percent to 42 percent; and gun owners, 62 percent to 38 percent -- all groups of interest given the controversy over Obama's comment about small-town voters clinging to guns and religion.

McCain has repeatedly labeled the comments "elitist" -- a theme and comments that could be revisited in the fall.

This article doesn't mention Clinton's gaffe in which she was running from plane to limo under sniper fire , it is apparent that Democrats don't mind a liar as badly as they don't like an elitist.

I have this feeling that Clinton DREAMED that sequence with the Bosnian snipers. I have had a few dreams that were so vivid they were easy to confuse after several years with reality. Or perhaps she heard of some other visitor to Bosnia that had a sniper experience. I don't see where she would invent such a tale, as if it were true, I don't think it could have gained her many votes. A candidate is under more pressure during the campaign that in most other situations. Surely she is aware that cameras followed her every move for the eight years she was First Lady.

I don't think Obama's statement was elitist i the least. It is a description of how some people feel and how they react to the frustrations of not being able to sell out and move or to get a decent job in their present location.

If you can't get any job at all, and some illegals get lots of work, this could be very frustrating.

More like, this is how elitists imagine blue collar people think, Obama made his statement to a nodding crowd in San Fransisco , when the blue collar people who don't live in his imagination heard it they realized that he was terribly out of touch with their needs.

So how is it they actually think, O wise one?

If one is out of work, and knows how and where to hunt, is it not likely that one might depend on one's rifle to harvest free venison, rather than to pay $2.99 (that one does not have) a pound for burger  at the Piggley-Wiggley? Would not one's rifle take on an added importance if one were unemployed in a rural area? I taught in a tiny burg for a year (Randle, WA) where the main topic of chatter at the local cafe was hunting, and the main recreation was shooting rats in the local dump.

There were four churches, in a town of under 300 souls. Not big churches, but that is a lot of religion for so few people.

This was in the 1960's, when there was still a lot of logging going on there. Guns and religion were a lot more important there then than they are in the city now. If people were out of work, it seems likely to me that they would be even more popular.

It is not elitist to describe reality. Not everyone wants it described, and that is what seems to piss off the few that did actually get pissed off. Note: rightwing columnists would hate anything that Obama or any Democrat did. They are fond of war and imperialism., and are paid to preach other pro- rightwing views to the proles.

"Proles"?

Is it possible that you too are elitist?
