It depends on your definition of "bipartisanship"
« on: October 28, 2008, 11:43:08 AM »
Senator Barack Obama (D) of Ill., continues to lead John McCain (R) of AZ, by seven points in Monday's ABC News tracking poll. So the G.O.P. is now warning what could happen if the democrats are in charge of both the White House and Congress. In Mountain View, Pelosi made an appearance at Google.

Pelosi came to Google to talk about the innovation agenda that the Democrats are promoting. It includes education and rebuilding the nation's infrastructure with green technology. However, a lot of the questions were about the presidential race, about the balance of power in Washington, and John McCain's statements from Monday morning.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi says after the election she would like to see congress back in session to pass a second stimulus package.

"Grow the economy, create good paying jobs, in the future in a way that is a green recovery, geared toward Main Street and is fiscally sound," said Pelosi (D), Speaker of the House.

And on concerns that Democrats might control both the White House and Congress she said the following.

"Elect us, hold us accountable, and make a judgment and then go from there. But I do tell you that if the Democrats win and have substantial majorities, Congress of the United States will be more bipartisan," said Pelosi.

In Cleveland this morning Senator John McCain continued to link Barack Obama with Nancy Pelosi and the democratic leadership, accusing them of wanting to tax Americans and spend their money.

"Do you want to keep it and invest it in your future or have it taken by the most liberal person to ever run for the presidency and the Democratic leaders the most liberal who have been running congress for the past two years, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. You know my friends, this is a dangerous threesome," said McCain.
In Canton, Ohio, Barack Obama responded.

"If you don't have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run away from. You make a big election about small things. Ohio we are here to say, 'Not this time, not this year, not when so much is at stake,'" said Obama.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised that Democrats will do a better job.

"It's interesting to hear Senator McCain talking about the dangerous Obama, Reid, Pelosi. Dangerous is not really a word that should be a part of a national debate as we go into a presidential race," said Pelosi.

Pelosi says plans for returning to work in Washington, calling congress back into session, after the election and before President Bush leaves office, will depend on the president's willingness to pass the second stimulus package. She believes the package shouldn't wait, perhaps can't wait until January.

What Pelosi really means is that the Democrats will not be obstructionists, as the Republicans have been for the past several years, blocking everything and blaming the Democrats for nothing getting accomplished.

Kinda hard being an obstructionist when you're in the majority.  In fact, if they still can't get anything accomplished, that probably makes them incompotent to boot
