The greening of the earth according to Oprah
« on: November 27, 2008, 10:29:43 PM »
You know, as I've been recuperating today watching the tube....Oprah's program surfaced.

It was a gifting type program to those who have little or not at all.

I found it ironic that in one of the many stories about "paying it forward", there was one focused on a purchase of an automoblie for a woman who was without wheels. For years she was forced to take the bus due to a lack of funds. etc. etc...

Ok..hmm, God forbid that she would have to take the bus. Yet out of the other side of Oprah's mouth comes the mantra of how grateful she is to have Obama as prez not to mention healing of this country......which includes the issue of the greening of America??

Now, don't get me wrong. I would have given the elderly lady a car too. I would have rescued those who have suffered...as one woman did by giving her "pay it forward money" to a domestic abuse victim. . . who lost most of her face.

Gifting is a wonderful thing, but the gift of more automobiles just doesn't make sense to me.

---What really doesn't make sense to me is the voice of someone like Oprah----a liberal power house-----who has made the choice of pronouncing that we are going to CHANGE THIS WORLD of ours....with the Obama win.

The best thing about Obama's policies is the fact that Oprah will have to give back to the gov. via taxes.

OK OK...I don't want to sound like a grinch.....on this very day when we give thanks to the world for our own gifts of plenty. But, indeed giving back should have some sort of common sense element to it on a global scale, does it not?

Ok....My goal:  Next year I want to help serve Thanksgiving dinner to the folks at Joy Junction in our city.

I can give more to those who are hungry than I can bitching about Oprah.

Crazy world......but we must find our own point in space where it hurts to live outside of the box.

Boxed lunch. Yep.....I would rather give than consume. I suppose that was the intent of Oprah's pay it forward progam.

Here we go again......would I be willing to take the bus and spend two hours on that bus in order to get to my destination?

No.

Not now.

Tough decisions...but Oprah is supposed to be more responsible than most, is she not?

I believe it to be having a sense of "useful Knowledge"

If he does what he said he'd do, Oprah will have to pay 3% more on all her income over $250,000.
I don't think it will cramp her lifestyle.

True, but at least it's a drop in the bucket.  ;)

I don't expect to hear one peep from Oprah about her taxes: she has people for that, anyway.
But all that extra money that Joe the Plumber was gonna haveta pay, that was rampant Socialism!

McCain said he was going to take Joe back the DC with him. I wonder if he will do that now. At least he could hire him to fix Cindy's Jacuzzi in house number five.

Prah's car give-awyas are tax deductible.

===================================

If you get a car from Oprah, you will have to declare it as income.

Oprah claim the cost of the cars to her as a business expense: they are part of her program. Beyoncé's hair extensions are deductible, just like a bank's computers.

Why not?

Not if it is a gift instead of a prize.

Not if it is a gift instead of a prize.

===============================
So when John Beresford Tipton, in the old TV program "The Millionaire" gave a million dllars to some poor schlub each episode, the phrase "tax free" was rather misued?

It is nice to know that gifts are deductible. I think there is a monetary limit, isn't there? I think I heard somewhere it was $10,000, and of course, Oprah's gift cars cost more than that.

There is no one likely to give me large gifts, so I am not too expert on this.
