Gorilla glass
« on: August 03, 2010, 06:45:55 AM »
In his office lobby, Steiner showed off a 400-foot-long spool of flexible, 16-inch-wide glass that's as thin as a sheet of paper.

"Kind of like Chemcor was back in the '60s," he said. "We're not sure what we're going to do with it, but it's cool isn't it?"

My Android phone has a Gorilla Glass face. Tough stuff - I've dropped it a few times, not even a chip.

I like Corning's Corelle Livingware crockery. It is harder than Pyrex to break, but when it does break, I would prefer Gorilla glass. For some reason, the microwave dishes I like are very hard to find in stores. I don't know if they make them anymore. I usually can find some at yard sales and thrift stores.

Of course, I don't know how Gorilla Glass reacts to heat or microwaves. I am surprised that they have had difficulty finding a use for it. I wonder how much more expensive it is to make.
