Specialists outside of Washington are divided on the initiative. One group says the administration is overreacting to an atomic threat that is all but nonexistent.

Peter Bergen, a fellow at the New America Foundation and New York University's Center on Law and Security, recently argued that the odds of any terrorist group obtaining a nuclear weapon are "near zero for the foreseeable future."

Peter Bergen knows this?I would like to know how.

Bush said, history will judge harshly those who ignore such a threat. Or words to that effect. I agree with Bush. Further, there's some good information here if they're correct in their advice on how to decrease casualties. And further still, as Hurricane Katrina pointed out, you can't be too prepared. I'm not a survivalist but I'm big on being prepared. From over stocking my prescriptions, to extra water, etc., etc, you name it, I'm ready.

uhm

I live in the united states and in the past decade , I recall at least 2 multi-state blackouts. I`m serious when I say I don`t listen to people who say nothing will happen.

waste of air

Technology to make the electrical grid more robust and self healing is comeing out of the lab soon , but right now a EMP event in a single key area could darken the east coast and ,or,the west coast for days.

A big solar event could make it world wide  , so we need to improve whether terrorists get a bomb or not.
