IIRC I got wind of a Justice Dept story, where the Government is siding with a teacher, who apparently wanted to take 3 WEEKS off from teaching at her school, to go to Mecha.  She wanted to go at a time the school really couldn't afford to allow her to....at least not for 3 whole weeks.  She had only been a teacher at the school for 9months, and the Obama administration is siding with her, based on some premice that the school was MAKING her choose between her religion and work, and tuhs violating her "civil rights"

Can they be any more transparent in their attempts to appease Muslims??

Where I come from that would NOT be OK. I say make a choice, your job or Mecca. You see just because the bitch wants to go to Mecca doesn't mean she is being denied her religion. The next thing is she will demand everyone in the office to not bring in ham sandwiches for lunch. Plus if the boss gave her a ham for Christmas I could see her suing him.

I imagine that out of every 200 teachers in a school, at least one takes three weeks off due to some reason, such as being ill, giving birth, having an operation, a result of an accident or something like that. It seems to me that the school should have a substitute that could follow this teacher's lesson plans and not really impact the education of her students.

The Hadjj in Islam is decreed to be required only once in a lifetime. I can see where the school could be justified in giving her a leave without pay, but firing an otherwise good teacher for one trip to Mecca in a lifetime seems excessive to me. It is not like she is asking for a paid leave to go to Yemen and build suicide vests. Muslims do not ever, in my experience, seem to be judgmental about non-Muslims eating ham, or the lack of Muslim beliefs among others.

The Muslim calendar has only 354 to 355 days, so the month for the hadjj cycles through the seasons. as the solar calendar has 365.25 days. At some point, the proper month for the hadjj will fall during her summer vacation or perhaps the Christmas holidays.

BINGO, which is why the Justice Dept's case is going to fail.  There was no need for this teacher to HAVE to do it now, thus now obligating a choice between her work and religious pursuits

Without more facts than a hazy recollection of a radio news story, how do you know what the real circumstances are and what would cause the Justice dept to side with the teacher.

Facts aside, the transparency is dare I say "obvious", made so by the frequent repetition this administration has presented in so many frequent efforts at appeasement aimed at the Muslim community.  So many possible opportunites this administration could go, as it relates to supposed civil rights cases, and they focus on preventing other states from enforcing immigration law, and now defending a nearly indefensible position of a supposed civil rights violation

I say let the courts decide this. I think that both sides have something to be said in their favor.

In my opinion, just giving this woman unpaid leave would have been an entirely adequate solution, and would not have cost the school district one dime of the money that should be used to educate students. Taxpayers deserve to have money spent for the intended purpose, which is NOT wasting it on silly lawsuits over religious issues.
