Buddha named his son Rahula, or "Obstacle". It seems that giving names like this is a cultural custom in India.
I have always been amazed by the large number of American Blacks, most of whom believe that prejudice among Blacks is a permanent feature of American society, and nonetheless burden their children names that allow any racist personnel manager to exclude them without even an interview: Lawanda, LaToya, Leroy, Levar, Rahim, Kareem, Ebony, etc. I do not dispute that everyone has the right to hang any name they wish on their kids, just that people should be aware of the consequences.
Jews tend to give two names for this reason. Al Green may be more Jewish than Shlomo Goldfarb or Israel Lipshitz, but that is not the way that the name will be regarded by the Gentile public.
