This was not exactly an "untold story".
I have read all this before.
It was the absolution of the cops that beat up Rodney King that provoked this. It was pretty obvious from the videos that they used force far in excess of any needed. The Cops should not have gotten off so lightly. They were in the wrong.
There is no excuse for the violence that followed, but it was forseeable and avoidable.
