I used to pay for my anti virus but found the free stuff my reliable because its in nortan best interest for thier customers to get malware so they can charge extra

I don't know what Norton's motive are, but the fact is that AVG seems to be adequate,and is also free.

I have had bad experiences with Norton and Symantec also.

I begin to think that McAfee and the other big players are the main targets of hackers , so that they are the ones that the hackkers try to beat.
If a hacker defeats the protection of a minor protective service , he is only attacking a few computers.

Is the solution , to have many hands in the fight?
