Student Suspended After Disarming GunmanI am sure many of you have heard about many instances lately about gun related issues in schools that do not actually involve real guns. Many children have gotten in trouble after drawing guns or making gestures with their hands representing guns, but now there is another example of something similar happening in a high school in Florida.
A 16-year-old high school student in Fort Meyers, Florida was suspended for 3 days for wrestling a loaded gun away from another teen who was threatening to shoot. The 16-year-old tackled a 15-year-old classmate on the school bus after he allegedly pointed the gun at another student.
The student expressed that he felt there was an immediate threat that the student would use the weapon then and there.
According to the referral the student received the following day, he was suspended for his role in an "incident" where a weapon was present and given an "emergency suspension," the station reported.
The boy's mother told Fox4Now.com her son was suspended because he refused to cooperate with the investigation, adding that he was scared.
The student with the gun was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school property and assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, the report states.
The police say the investigation is ongoing and school officials have declined the request to comment on the case.
Does anyone else think it’s kind of crazy that now students who are acting in heroic ways are being punished? He attempted to take away a loaded gun from a criminal and he gets in trouble for being involved in the incident where a gun was present? Isn’t this getting a bit out of hand?
