We Wouldn't Want to Offend the Far Right

"In the US, Stephen Soderbergh’s new film will be broadcast on HBO television rather than in cinemas: major studios feared the film was ‘too gay’ for commercial success. In Cannes, the film has screened In Competition with a worldwide release to follow."

I was actually looking forward to seeing it.  Bummers, since I don't get HBO.  I guess I'll have to wait for it to come out at Blockbuster

Oh, was I supposed to be offended??   d'oh, sorry

I can't say that Liberace is a subject that interests me all that much. He was a great piano player, but a cheesy cornball in his public persona.

It would not bother me in the least for anyone to air a Liberace film.

I would not pay $10 to see it in a first-run movie theater, but someday, if it got good reviews, I might watch it on netflix.

So, as I said, this apparent "far right" fella is bummed that he can't see it, but the "far left" fella wouldn't pay to see it in the theaters, justifying the decision to move it to HBO instead

It is a common fallacy on the left , they they can understand all the thoughts of the right and predict them without fail.

This is based on the earlyer fallacy that the thoughts of the left are better thought out than the thoughts of the right.

I hope that I do not suffer from the notion that the lefts thoughts are merely the reverse of my own.

That would be silly wouldn't it?

I am personally not responsible for them deciding to put a Liberace film on HBO. I have missed paying anything to see a single Chuck Norris or Die Hard film, as well as The Book of Kells at all. I choose to watch films that I feel I will find interesting, amusing or thought-provoking. It is always a matter of taste, not of politics. I saw Blackhawk Down and The Hurt Locker and Avatar as well, so what?

I did not watch Liberace on TV when he was alive. I am not as fond of piano music as of other sorts of music. It is a matter of taste. I like several of Elton John's songs and have a couple of his CDs. Again, it is a matter of personal taste, not politics.

STRAWMAN alert!!  Who ever implied that you were??

The issue here is the erroneous invalid claim that the Libarace film was pulled from the Theaters to HBO because it would "offend the Far Right".  When the hell has that EVER stopped Hollywood, with the countless movies openly depicting gay characters, from doing precisely that.  The title of the thread was pure BS before one line had to be read.  I helped reinforce that with the hope that I, this supposed far right gun nut, was looking forward to seeing it, while an great example of the far left was not planning on spending anything to see it, on the big screen

Ergo, the decision to pull it from the theaters was far more along the lines of monetary, as in if those behind the film were fearful they were going to see a box-office bust, by folks, LIKE YOURSELF, not willing to pay to go see it.  And perhaps its a better financial decision to move it to HBO instead.  Meaning it had prescious little, if anything, to do with "offending the far right"

Or perhaps they moved it, so as not to offend folks with an apparent non-fondness of piano music

I havn't seen the hype that is normal for new movies in this case.

Were the producers depending on contraversy to make the public aware?

NPR has been talking it up, naturally.

But it lost out to “Blue Is the Warmest Color”

which is a film about lesbian love.
