Noisy silencer.

Sig Sauer and the ATF have not yet come to a resolution on their previously reported dispute over the civlian-oriented MPX pistol-caliber carbine muzzle brake. As we reported in July, Sig contends that the brake is just a brake, where the ATF asserts that it is a “silencer” (just without a shroud to muffle the report of the firearm. - See more at: http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2014/09/12/sigs-dispute-batfe-mpx-muzzle-brake-continues/#sthash.hip4kI3b.dpuf

I don't like this , I do like muzzle brakes , but this one is made upside down.

But how does the ATF get away with calling it a "suppressor" or a "silencer" when it really does nothing to reduce the sound of a shot?

I think their point is that if you added a soup can to this it would then reduce the report, that might be true , but hanging any sort of container on the end of any gun reduces the sound , there is no standard for how much reduction is allowed or how loud a pop the gun must make.
