if a gvt is large it has more influence to be bought by lobby groups and special interests.
a small gvt by definition has less power, thus less influence to sell.

When people say they want a ''small government'', they mean they want a government that has few regulatory powers. we used to have a small government It could not  eliminate monopolies, it could not tell food and drug companies what they could put in their products, it could not require workmens' compensation of injuries on the job,  it could not establish minimum wages or safer working conditions. The federal government had none of these powers in the 1880's and 1890's. Smaller government means a powerless government that cannot defend the citizens and workers against exploitation and abuse.

The government in those days allowed ranchers to run cattle at no charge on government land, it granted mining claims for a small fee, and it acted for the benefit of a few wealthy people and against the average citizen.

You do not know diddly about small and large government.

Crony capitalism is just one more crappy product of large government.

No, that it not true.

So, despite the precise definition provided, it isn't true because.....you say it isn't??

Crony capitalism is exactly what this country had in the 1880's and 1890's when there was no income tax and government had almost no power at all.

Crony Capitalism functions with the intimate involvement of powerful entities, be it corporations in cahoots with one another, OR corporation(s) in cahoots with GOVERNMENT.
When Government attempts to place one company or industry over another, THAT's crony capitalism.
When Government is allowed to grow exponentially, lobbiests for large corporations have greater sway and cover, which personifies crony capitalism.
When Government attempts to push one industry while punishing competing industry, THAT's crony capitalism.
When companies or Corporations are deemed "too big to fail", that is one of the end goals of crony capitalism.  It's occured under both GOP & Democrat Administrations.  The whole Solyndra debacle and "green jobs" efforts are dripping of Crony capitalism.  It's all about you scratch my back, I'll scratch yoursYou donate large sums to me, I'll protect & reward you

Captalism alone, if allowed to function, with merely Governement oversight, the way our country was designed, is what spurs our economy the greatest.  But when Government, not only gets in the way, but gets so big it actually facilitates more Crony Capitalism, you get the results that we see today, that Bernie is all so up & arms at.  How ironic, its his own party & President that has pushed crony capitalism to a point of nearly out of control

Smaller government means a powerless government that cannot defend the citizens
and workers against exploitation and abuse.

Smaller government does not mean a "powerless" government....that is ridiculous!

Trillion dollar reckless Santa Claus deficit budgets are exploitation and abuse.

The obese government exploits citizens via crony capitalism
and is the reason we are in the mess we find ourselves in today.

The worst single entity polluter in the world is the US Government.

The American Indian was exploited and abused by the US Government.

The US Soldiers in Vietnam were exploited by the US Gvt/LBJ being sent
to die in battle when LBJ was saying behind the scenes it was unwinnable.

The US Government exploited and abused Japanese US Citizens
and rounded them up into camps during WWII.

The US Government exploited and abused African Americans
conducting the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment.

The US government has never been completely powerless, but crony capitalism existed between the government and almost every railroad that was ever built. Oil and mining companies also got favors from the government that smaller competitors did not get. The Keystone Pipeline was a major example of crony capitalism. What those who want a ''small government'' want is no interference from OSHA over safety violations, no support of workers' rights when they try to organize a union,  the right to run double trailer and super heavy trailers over the Interstates and permits that do not pay for all the damage done by them, guaranteed monopolies on all new drugs, even those that are different than previous versions in meaningless ways. They want low fines or no fines and the ability to appeal all cases until the following administration.

This country is going to the LEFT more every year. The Republicans are headed in the other direction.

Is that why the Republicans control 2 of the 3 branches of Gvt?
The American People have put the Republicans in charge of the US House, the US Senate, and the US Supreme Court!

Liberalism will be in the ash-heap of history as FREEDOM will always win out.

You are so full of AMBE, professor....the Keystone pipeline's connection to Crony Capitalism was that it was an industry that was punished so that Government's pet industry of solar & "alternate energy", who gave booko $$$$ to Democrats, who were in power, could take lead, with much of the competition castrated by regulations.  And of course, as they failed, their investors were bailed out 1st.

Crony capitalism goes way beyond helping one's friends & cronies. It is a twisted, orchestrated plan that rewards the cronies and costs the taxpayer, while punishing the average citizen. On a national level, we have what could be called “crony environmentalism.” Laws and regulations, which should apply to everybody, are waived for the favored few.  The oil and gas industry is hauled into court if a migratory bird happens to die in an oil pit, but the thousands of birds—including protected eagles—killed by wind turbines are actually authorized.

When it's a Republican, it's a blatant flip flop.  When it's a Democrat, it's an "evolving".  You didn't get the memo?

I really don't think the ''flip flop'' argument is valid for anyone.
Change is one of the most constant things there is. People's opinions change with the times, and the opinions of those they choose to lead should change, as well.

This is not a good definition for "leadership".
