I don't think that they are related at all.
If Gates and Wozniak sold blue boxes, they were breaking the law. But it was hardly a law that affected anything other than maybe Ma Bell's profits.
Average citizens were unaffected.

Defeating encryption could affect us all.

onething for sure the conspiracy of big brother government is alot weaker and smaller than previously claimed

I don't think so. The government normally gets permission to access info from corporations all the time and it never  even makes the papers. Here, they are taking on Apple, and Apple has promised that its device guards data from all unauthorized access. If Apple agrees to allow the FBI to snoop, then it sould easily be pressured by the Chinese to do the same. This case is the exception not the rule.
