Assad routinely has ordered the murder of doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers.

Assad is at best Saddam Lite. He is just as murderous and cruel, but less flamboyant.
The US cannot choose the next leader of Syria, so your assumption that Obama or any US or foreign president could do so is simply absurd.
Juniorbush's original plan was to put  Chalabi in charge of Iraq: that did not last even thirty minutes.
President Obama is doing all this country can do in Syria: eliminating Isis as a major threat and insisting that Assad needs to go.

Assad has ruled Syria since 2000.  Syrians have had enough of him.
Just like you have had enough of President Obama. Suppose some stronger nation insisted that Obama remain in power until 2024 or beyond: then assume that Obama had a thing for murdering doctors and nurses with bombs when they were trying to cure and save those dying from the problems his attacks had caused: that is exactly what you are saying when you say that this country should support the murderous Assad.

You barely know enough about Syria to find it on a map.

interesting article BT and only confirms my suspicions...
sad that a damn pipeline the Oligarchy and Obama want....can cause this much pain and suffering
I feel for the Syrian people and what Obama and others have done to them.
The rebels would have never been able to last or cause this level of death without help from Obama and friends
of course the Oligarchy hides behind another boogeyman they created President Assad out to be
the Oligarchy did the same thing with Saddam and Khadafi
Create a boogeyman as a distraction to hide the real goals
President Assad should not have been attacked by Islamist armed and funded by Obama and Saudis
What business do we have arming/funding Islamist foreigners in Syria and/or Libya for that matter?
I hope President Assad can survive....
President Putin is trying to put a stop to the Obama non-nonsensical policy of trading in secular Assad for IslamoBeheaders.

Yeah, clearly Putin is a hero.
We could use a man like Herbert Hoover Vladimir Putin again. Make Syria great again.

Perhaps Putin is planning to keep Assad in power and then replace him with a better puppet,

Of course, no president of Syria can ever be anyone that Netanyahu would fancy.
Syrians at this point only seem to agree on one thing: Israel must return the land it has stolen.
Even the UN agrees on that.

I hope Assad dies like a dog. He is a fucking monster. Of course, a World Court trial would also be fine.
He has exceeded the death toll that both Charles Taylor and Slobodon Milosovic have racked up, and neither of them murdered doctors.

This pipeline stuff is very complex. Gas via pipeline to Syria from the Persian Gulf would have to be delivered by tanker to Europe or wherever. Gas loaded onto a tanker could also go through the Persian Gulf to wherever for not much more expense. Iran is surely not going to block Qatari or Iranian oil through the Straits of Hormuz.

The paragraph does not make sense to me:

n a narrow sense, as Washington neo-conservatives see it, who controls Syria could control the Middle East. And from Syria, gateway to Asia, he will hold the key to Russia House, as well as that of China via the Silk Road.

Who the Hell would deliver gas to China via the Silk Road? How is Syria the "gateway to Asia" anymore that Turkey and Iran? Do the Neocons who are supposed to believe this own a map?

Delivering Iranian gas to China to Syria and then along the Silk Road?  How would that work? There is no Silk Road pipeline and if there were, it would not run through Syria to China.
