Pre-School is for Wimps

"McClatchy Newspapers reports that the cumulative $564 billion allocated for the war by Sept. 1 could pay for pre-school for every 3- and 4-year-old in the country for the next eight years."

That doesn't count the cost of soon-to-be-mandatory lessons in Arabic should the dike burst in Iraq.

Now, if we could just alter the Constitution so it no longer mandates that the Fed provide for the common defense, and instead mandate that the Fed provide pre-school for every 3-4y/o child in the country

One of the selling points for state lotteries is earmarking it for funding eduction and pre school iniatives. Zell Miller did that in Georgia.

Conventional wisdom now probably says that since Zell was for it, it is a bad idea.

But gamblins a SIN.  Ask Jerry Falwell if the education of America's children should be rooted in SIN.  Ask Pat Robertson.  Ask the School of Government at the Bob Jones University of the Ozarks.  What's HAPPNIN to you conservatives anyway?  I'm shocked and profoundly disillusioned.  And Zell Miller's goin straight to Hell.

Oh, you don't have to alter the Constitution for something as trivial as universal education.  It's not a major issue like the sanctity of man-woman marriage, after all.  Just ask yourself where in the Constitution is it mandated that the U.S. Government spend half a trillion bucks to bring "democracy" to the good people of Iraq?  And then vote in an administration that just won't do it anymore.  And cut federal taxes to reflect the savings.  And let the state governments pick up the slack with new state education taxes.  See?  Where there's a will, there's a way.

Sure you do, if we're going to be impacting EVERY child, using nearly EVERYONE's tax dollars to pay for it.  What's the matter Tee, don't think you could get it passed?  tsk, tsk, tsk, stupid Constitution, always getting in the way of such great socialist ideals

Better read the post again, sirs.  It's pretty clear.  If the Federal government stops blowing away hundreds of billions in Iraq, it can cut back on taxes and allow the states who want to pick up the difference tax their citizens for pre-school.  A little state-federal coordination is all that's required.  I think your Constitution's flexible enough to permit that.  There's nothing unconstitutional about it.

Actually, I'd suggest you read the Constitution Tee.  It's even clearer

    Gambleing is the reason I was against the Lottery when Zell introduced the idea , since then I can't argue with the proven fact that Georgia is getting good of it, higher education has never been eazer to achieve here than since the introduction of the HOPE grant , I have even used it myself.


     It is not the only time I was ever wrong.


     Long term will the harm done by the gambling eradicate the good done by the education?


   Perhaps more like as more of us learn math , fewer of us will buy lotto tickets.
