One big tangential benefit--now we all get to see them realize that the world is indeed complex, and that now we get a chance to see them think, instead of parrott.

I wonder what their preachers will tell them to do? Or for whom their little voter cards they get at church will tell them to vote?
I smell something burning, hope it's just my brains.
They're only dropping peppermints and daisy-chains
So stuff my nose with garlic
   Coat my eyes with butter
   Fill my ears with silver
   Stick my legs in plaster
   Tell me lies about Vietnam.

Don't know.

What do you think the little voter cards the NAACP sends out will say?

I think it more likely that it will be a Clinton-Richardson ticket.

I also think looking at the GOP field Giuliani is placed nicely in the middle.

On Meet the Press, someone said they thought that South Carolina will loom large, and it may well be between Giuliani and Romney, and that hence the evangelicals would now be forced to choose between abortion and Mormonism.

It points out that the evangelical terrains are changing, and that many of them are now a herd without a herder.

One big tangential benefit--now we all get to see them realize that the world is indeed complex, and that now we get a chance to see them think, instead of parrott.

Many evangelicals will choose Mormonism over Death.

This is a win win situation, imho.

Even if the preachers try to maintain the old iron grip status quo in pleasing the Neocons, whom in my opinion seized upon the opporturnity to cultivate an intolerance that would their purposes well, how can they?

Say Robertson wants to keep close to his chest his hatred for abortion, and tells his flock to vote against it, another evangelical with a similar flock decides that the already extant dislike and distrust for Mormonism is just too much too swallow, you will have division.

Say, even, that both examples choose one over the other in concert; this still leaves two entire flocks to sort out the priorities themselves, because the two horns of this dilemma have thus be created by the attritioned running of Rudy and Mitt.]

With Rudy against Mitt, each individual evangelical has a new set of circumstances to face--choosing one evil over another.

Perhaps we'll just choose Thompson instead....

Perhaps.

But by far the most salient happenstance to have been created is that the evangelicals no longer have a cerebral slam dunk like they have had in the past.

Now, they are forced to think things through, rather than having the unreal and idyllic all right, all wrong, all one way of thinking, which has, let us face it, created a rigidity than has only served to create division and darken both America's religious and political skies.

Can you not see that now, they would thinking believers rather than thoroughly indoctrinated clones?

Can you not see that this pairing of Mitt against Rudy would serve to throw open the curtains, and permits choice;  that this opens their minds, and serves to deflect the always present threat of the absolutism of cultish subscription?

I myself can see the opportunity to mend religious fences in America;  religions would now be presented with options and could make decisions, which would create an atmosphere of mutual cooperation for all churches in America, instead of them being locked into an eternal disagreement wherein no leeway makes certain no resolution.

This means that religions would exist in the vibrant and clean air of checks and balances.

I would suggest that, in a Democracy, this is ideal.

Well, there is already the news flash that Thompton's son was awarded some sinecure, no-show job which paid in excess of $200,000 a year due to his pappy's right wing associations, the kind of longshoreman's graft situtation that has been mainly reserved for capo's in the mafia.

Will this, I wonder, cause some evangelicals to ponder that an option exists?

I see you endeavoring to favor a tight knit of evangelical political committment.

I find that sad.

Sometimes old school serves only to concretize existing wrongfulness, which usually happens when somebody thinks there is only one piece in the pie.

Well, people vote as they see fit, of course. Many evangelicals may vote many different ways this time unless there is a Pro-Life candidate with decent morals, even a Democrat. Not that they offer any suitable candidates. But, many evangelicals I talk to would indeed support a Shuler type of Democrat.

Too simple for the effect you desire, killing on one hand , doctrinal disagreement on the other , I think that the split will be negligable .
