I am guessing that this, though true, did not result in the Prince hiring Beethovan as a court musician.

In those days, the people didn't have diddly. There were no recordings, no copyrights on sheet music, no way Beethoven had to make money as a musician other than public concerts and giving lessons. He might have been a rock star today, but he didn't have it that easy then.

Mozart died in debt and was buried in a pauper's grave.

In addition to this, Europe was ravaged by the Napoleonic wars and their aftermath during the early 1800's.

Beethoven had strong feelings about Napolion.

He wrote a symphony to honor Napolion , but just as he was prepareing to finish and publish it , Napolion crowned himself Emporerer.

Beethoven was disgusted with Napolion after that and he removed the dedication from his symphony before he published it .

At this point Beethoven was pulling in plenty of money and had a lot of fans in every walk of life.

Music is much more availible to us now , it is hard to imagine life with so much quiet .
