Permanent Military Bases in Iraq
« on: February 28, 2008, 09:33:14 PM »
http://www.counterpunch.com/dimaggio02252008.html

Here is a story from Counterpunch about a bill sponsored by Henry Waxman and about 40 progressive Democrats regarding permanent U.S. military bases in Iraq.   Interestingly, neither Obama nor Hillary have co-sponsored this bill.  Meaning that these "opponents" of the war have no problem with U.S. plans for permanent military bases in Iraq.  Strange, huh?  They're "anti-war," but they're cool with permanent U.S. military bases in the same country the war is being fought in - - gee, wonder how that can be?  Kinda makes you wonder, eh, what's the point of elections?  This issue has already been decided at higher levels.  Seems too important to leave to the voters.

What is equally strange is the silence of the MSM on this issue.  Nary a peep, as they say.  The article explores that silence, too.  Gee, what a strangely monolithic MSM you have for such a "free country."

Looks like the author is being deliberately deceptive. Even the most vocal antiwarriors have conceded that a smaller peacekeeping US force will be necessary.

<<Even the most vocal antiwarriors have conceded that a smaller peacekeeping US force will be necessary.>>

Right there is the problem:  "even the most vocal anti-warriors."

The most vocal anti-warriors want the U.S. out immediately, NO smaller U.S. "peace-keeping" force and no permanent U.S. bases.  The MSM has manipulated the "debate" to such an extent that Establishment shills like Obama and Clinton are seen as the "most vocal" anti-warriors, when in fact they are barely distinguishable from Bush and Cheney in their foreign policy.  REAL anti-war people are so marginalized and blanked out that they aren't even visible to the general public.

Perhaps it is less than imagined. One observes that Norman Vincent Peale, who wrote the books on positive thinking, proved to be mortal.
(May 31, 1898 ? December 24, 1993).

Still 95 years is impressive for a mortal.

Died on Christmas Eve. Hmmm.

still dead after 14 years.
