Jacalteco Oriental New Testament now online
Another day, another new Bible version available at the Bible Gateway! Today we’ve added the Jacalteco Oriental (Eastern) New Testament. The Jacalteco Eastern language is spoken by about 10,000 people in Guatemala. It joins the last several versions we’ve added in making the Gospel available in a number of native Central American languages.

The Jacalteco New Testament was translated by Wycliffe Bible Translators. Here’s what John 3:16 looks like in Jacalteco Easterm:

Thanks for your continued use and support of the Bible Gateway as we work to get God’s Word online in every language under the sun!

Now 10,000 people who speak neither English nor Spanish can read the Bible on the Internet.
Of course, that is assuming that they can read at all.
I sure hope the Google Jacatelco version can find it.

I remember knowing nothing about the internet , then knowing little , now it is all over the place.

Will the internet penetrate the backwoods and forgotten corners of the planet?

Some, certainly not all.

No corner of the planet is forgotten by those who live there. To many of them, it is the center of the universe. Wherever you are is the center of your universe, isn't it? Same for them.

How would an illiterate Jacatelco Indian who spoke only Jacalteco access the Internet?

Hearing some bilingual Spanish Jacalteco preacher tell him about Jesus in person would be the main use of the Jacalteco Bible online. Perhaps the Jacalteco preacher might look it up to find a translation for a difficult word.

"Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana."

This company seems to be really out to lunch.

Why would anyone waste money to make another version of MS Office, when IBM's Lotus Suite went bust and WordPerfect is on the ropes? There is a Windows version of Open Office for FREE that does nearly all that MS Office does.

Hence the posting of an anonymized story on a website called "The Daily WTF".
