The next president is ... Huckabee?
« on: January 24, 2010, 03:19:53 AM »
Though, Obama is under 50% against any Republican which means they would all beat him.

--------------

Mike Huckabee has a 45-44 advantage over Obama, aided largely by a 44-38 lead with independents. There continues to be no evidence of any negative fallout for Huckabee after murders of police officers committed by an ex-Arkansas inmate whose sentence he had commuted. His 35/29 favorability breakdown is actually slightly better than it was in November before that incident.

Mitt Romney does the next best, trailing Obama 44-42. His favorability is 36/32, and he?s the most popular Republican among independents (41/32). Romney actually matches Huckabee with GOP voters this month and gets over 50%, ending a trend in his numbers that had seemed to spell difficulty for snagging a Republican nomination.

Sarah Palin trails Obama 49-41 largely because she loses 14% of the Republican vote to him, making her the only one of the GOP candidates we tested who Obama could get double digit crossover support against. At the same time Palin continues to be the most well liked potential GOP candidate within her party- at 71% favorability. Her problem appears to be that the Republicans who don?t care for her will go so far as to vote for Obama instead of her.

IMO....we nominate Huckabee we lose...we lose to Obama....we lose to Hillary

Huckabee great guy.....just not a winning nominee

We need someone the Taxocrats would hate to see as the nominee, not somone they would like to see

They would see Huckabee as someone they could beat

Huckabee could maybe be an ok VP....still too early though...and depends where nominee is from

Huckabee will never be the candidate as long as the GOP is run by the ideologues.  If the Party turns away from ideology, or at least from conservative ideology, then Huckabee would be a natural choice.

When or if Republicans realize that the eight years of the Bush administration demonstrated a total failure of the conservative ideology, then Huckabee would be their natural choice, since he's a good man, whom they could trust to make the right decisions in a non-ideological way.  Unfortunately, since he's ideologically impure, he will never be the candidate of a party of ideologues.

Huckabee is conservative.

I was impressed by the way he weathered that commutation controversy. His approval seemed to go up, though he is not holding any office. And he brings good humor.

We'll see.

The point is, though, that Obama's approval has deteriorated so rapidly, that Huckabee - or any Republican for that matter - would beat him if the election were today.

THis is speculation about what MIGHT happen in an unrealistic situation. So I really don't care. The USA is not going to elect a preacher to the presidency in any case.

Although I do admire Huckabee for losing all that weight. That is pretty hard to do.

I suspect you will keep on saying that until the day Obama finally does lose.

What does it say about Obama that he is trailing a preacher?

I see no reason to say that some silly poll like this has any significance other than to send a buzz down the leg of reactionaries and other obamahaters.

And yeah, only the actual election actually counts. And the fact that Juniorbush was elected once proves that the voters are often imbeciles.
