WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Bush administration's controversial practice of providing federal funds to "faith-based" religious organizations will be debated before the Supreme Court in a case testing the discretionary spending power of the executive branch.
Oral arguments are likely to be heard in late February A federal appeals court in Washington this year ruled in favor of the group Freedom from Religion Foundation, which filed a lawsuit against the White House.
President Bush in 2001 created the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, to help funnel billions of dollars to selected private groups that provide a range of social services, such as feeding and training the homeless, and educating underprivileged children.
