Everyone has heard by now, that you rush into war, not out of it.

There's no hurry.  It's not like its a life or death situation.

The incoming congress simply needs to pull the authorizarion and appropriations for the war , so what is the problem?

Pulling the authorization is absolutely what must be done but I wouldn't pull the appropriations.  Why punish the troops for the leaders' failures?

The way to go forward is to pull the authorization and have the congress take over the mission and get the troops out in staged withdrawal.

How would pulling appropriations punish the troops? Wouldn't the defunding trigger withdrawal and isn't that what you want?

Guess you could earmark appropriations to dismantling of bases and to pay for troop withdrawals.

To be quite honest, I don't know exactly how that works and so my concern would be that it might stop any new equipment/protection/food/whatever from going to our people over there while they are doing their jobs and following orders.  A lot of dems would say that it is the political worry of "how that would look to voters" if funding were pulled for appropriations but that's not really a concern to me unless the perception is the reality.  So, if I don't know if pulling the funding would make troops less safer than they already are, then I'm not going to just say "pull the funding" and take the political heat without knowing what the reality is for the Troops.  Too many have already died while politics got played.  I wouldn't want knowing that pulling the funding to end what I perceive as an illegal, immoral war got troops killed for lack of that funding.

To be quite honest ....

The quickest way to stop the war, a stated goal of yours, would be to pull funding for that war. I'm certain the language of the defunding could express your concerns that defunding does not equate to disarming our troops. You could even fund enough to cover redeployment costs and base dismantling.

So i'm not sure why you hesitate on pulling the trigger.

I do understand your concerns with perception. The GOP struggles with that issue all the time.

If I knew that it would not put the troops in danger, then, yes, I would call for pulling the funding for the "war".

Then that must mean such a withdrawl would "put the troops in danger"?  And all those Murtha-like proclaimations of withdraw & redeploy were actually being made by those who would have made troops less safer than they already are?

What do you mean, then what?  Are you asking me what I'd do if they don't de-fund the war?
