The thought occurs to me that the end of "don't ask, don't tell" could have a useful purpose: to tell some male soldier that one is a Lesbian so they will just go away and leave her alone.

Generally effective in civilian life, but impossible now because of DADT .

What is it with the silly black paint on the cheeks?

I have never in my life suffered any problems with a glare of light on my cheeks.

This seems to have started with the NFL and has spread all over the place. There is even one moron who sees fit tpo write "John 3:16" in white on black streaks on his cheeks.

Like it or not, combat is not something that most women relish. Just as gay men gravitate toward flower arrangement, ballet, hairdressing, interior decorating and other "feminine" occupations, lesbians tend to gravitate toward engineering, construction, truck driving and soldiering.

A major problem that women have in the military is getting hit on by men. One good way to repel lustful men is to state that one is a lesbian. That will tend to prevent most men from proceeding further.

If one is prohibited from saying this, then that is not possible.

I don't think that a rape would be prevented this way, an annoying dating attempt might be deterred but not a criminal.

Rape is not the usual cause of unwanted pregnancy in the military. I agree that telling the rapist that one is a lesbian would probably not be effective in most cases.

I imagine that the percentage of lesbians who enlist is likely to be greater among military enlistees than among the general population, because, as I said, some occupations appeal more to "tomboys" than others.
